Regulatory Requirements For GP Doctors
Depending on when and where you qualified, IMC registration is subject to specific eligibility requirements and may require that you undertake exams. IMC registration can take up to 6 months, so early assessment of your specific circumstances is vital. GP Doctors in Ireland are required to:
- Register with the Irish Medical Council
- Have medical indemnity cover
- Have a work visa (if non-resident in the EEA).
- You may qualify to work for 90 days under the Atypical Working Scheme
- You may be eligible to avail of the Critical Skills Permit, a 2-year permit that can be extended to permanent eligibility.
- The ICGP Non-EU Rural GP Programme aims to identify, support and integrate a cohort of non-EU GPs into the rural Irish GP workforce.
- Have a good standard of spoken and written English – may also be subject to examination via IELTS.
- A Personal Public Service (PPS) number for taxation purposes. Without it, emergency tax at a much higher rate is charged.
- A Bank Account for salary payments.
